A group of currently serving NYSC Members who were trained by the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation have held a sensitisation campaign for the general public on the 2023 General Elections. The sensitisation campaign took place on Wednesday 22nd February and Thursday 23rd February, 2023 at the Nyanya and Garki axis of the FCT, respectively.
The NYSC Members who were trained by the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation on Intensifying the Campaign for Greater Integrity in Nigeria, took it upon themselves to organise and go on the public sensitisation campaign as a way to contribute to free, fair, credible and peaceful elections in Nigeria. This campaign formed part of the action plans they developed at the workshop held for them by the Foundation.
The corps members who were of both the Christian and Islamic religious extractions left aside their religious and ethnic differences to unite and carry out the sensitisation, which they hoped would help galvanise the Nigerian people to, not just go out to vote, but to vote right, be peaceful and be orderly while at it. Bearing banners, handbills and placards with various inscriptions relating to the 2023 Elections on them, the corps members engaged members of the public on the roads, in the markets, shops and other places within the target areas. There were also calls made over the public address system to the people to go out to exercise their franchise, eschew votes buying and selling, stand for peace and orderliness, and vote right.
The sensitisation campaign was very successful as the corps members were gladly accepted by members of the public who stopped to listen patiently to the messages they were passing. Some members of the public also joined in corroborating the messages of the corps members and further encouraged them to keep up the good work as the sensitisation exercise is an essential part of any electoral process.
The sensitisation campaign was supported by the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation as part of its own drive to sensitise and educate the general public on the 2023 elections, an initiative which has led to the release of various sensitisation videos, images and texts online and via peer-to-peer distribution. The Foundation believes that efforts like this are essential to the success of the 2023 General Elections and calls on the general public to join in this effort for the success of the polls.
