NETWORK AND ADVOCACY GROUP OF LUX TERRA VISITS PARTNERS FOR ELECTORAL REFORM

The Network and Advocacy Group of Lux Terra Leadership Foundation in its series of Advocacy visits to partner with Individuals, Organizations and Influential Nigerians towards promoting civic participation; paid a visit to High Chief Ezenwa Nwagwu, the Executive Director, Peering Advocacy & Advancement Centre in Africa, and promoter of the Partners for Electoral Reform. He is also a Consultant at will for YIAGA Africa and member of the board of several other civil society organizations. He has been in the forefront of the campaign for civic participation and electoral reforms in Nigeria for many years. While introducing the team on the visit, the Project Coordinator of NAAG Inya Ode, explained that the project aims to bring Nigerians from across all cross-sections together and think Nigeria, emphasize the need for national unity, mutual understanding and cooperation, promote social justice and creatively manage our diversity and engender peaceful coexistence. She added that there are many people who still believe in Nigeria and need to be encouraged to sustain their hope and optimism, hence the need to galvanize the effort of strategic actors in driving the Pan-Nigerian agenda. This visit, as well as other similar visits is part of the Network’s mandate to collaborate with stakeholders in its quest to bring the desired change for a better and progressive Nigeria. While expressing his gratitude for all the initiatives and efforts put together by the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation to ensure a country like Nigeria remain as one peaceful country, Mr. Ezenwa assured of his commitment to partner with the Lux Terra Foundation to ensure the success of their efforts. He then called on all Nigerians and Civil Organizations to be deliberate towards facilitating a people-centered political conversation that can bring about real progress in Nigeria. He said political conversations should not start and end around or about politicians, rather, political conversation should be more around and about the kind of government and policies that are needed to improve the welfare of Nigerians and accommodate the active engagement in the process of decision making. He added that unless the people go into election with a clear understanding of the type of Government they want, and have sufficiently taken the stage and set the direction of conversation around the people’s agenda, every election will be a mere ritual performed to fulfil all righteousness. He further stated that civil organizations like the Lux Terra have the responsibility to create the avenue for the political conversation where ordinary people are involved in deciding and curating an agenda for the political elites. Ezenwa, equally called on all Nigerians to imbibe a strong sense of nationalism and patriotism, and must be seen to project the many good stories that come out of our country. He said there are beautiful stories about Nigeria that have to be told, enough of the negative narratives. And added that civil organizations must now begin to do more of solution based activism, while holding the leaders to account for their mis-governance, the people at the grassroots must be empowered and encouraged to become more interested in how they are governed especially at local levels and become their own protectors.
