May 4th to 8th, 2026, the premises of the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation in Abuja became more than a training venue: it became a sacred space of encounter with the self, and a space for reflection, healing, and transformation, when 61 participants drawn mainly from the Senate of Veritas University, Abuja, were taken through modules on Psycho-Spiritual Trauma Awareness, Psychological First Aid, and Basic Psycho-Spiritual Trauma Healing Skills. Participants were also helped to confront the painful reality of their own woundedness, living as they are in a broken society such as contemporary Nigeria, where tragic and emotionally overwhelming experiences are a daily occurrence.
The training programme provided an opportunity for participants to acquire deeper understanding of potentially devastating psycho-emotional and spiritual impact of the violent conflicts, incessant loss and displacement, physical abuse, as well as perennial fear and anxiety. Participants agreed that psycho-trauma (in its interpersonal, vicarious, collective and intergenerational forms), is no longer the experience of a few. It is now a reality that almost everyone in the Nigerian society is having to live with.
Highlights of the training exposure include acquiring of psychological first, Aid, basic listening, resilience building as well as referral skills, to support traumatised or distressed persons in their environment.
The training experience was concluded with a general trauma therapy session for participants, while those needing individual follow-up sessions with qualified professionals were provided with the required guidance.
At the end of the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Hyacinth Ichoku expressed the profound gratitude of the University for what he called the transformative experience which Lux Terra imparted the staff who came for the Trauma Healing Skills training.
