The Lux Terra Leadership Foundation recently hosted a Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop for functionaries of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, on preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Nigeria.

The training encounter was aimed at enabling participants to develop training modules and outline appropriate catechetical, pastoral, family and human life, as well as justice and peace initiatives, that are aimed at mobilising the Catholic Church’s extensive networks and resources, towards addressing and effectively preventing Gender-Based Violence not only within ecclesiastical circles, but across the country as a whole.

Participants at the workshop which held from January 8 to 10, 2026, engaged in a range of interactive learning activities, including brainstorming sessions, focused group discussions, and presentations, designed to strengthen understanding and practical application of GBV prevention strategies.

At the end of the workshop, participants who included the Secretary General and the Departmental Directors, confirmed that they were now adequately equipped to cascade the training programme among the Clergy and the Religious, including Bishops and Rectors of Seminaries; among Catechists and Pre-Marital Course Instructors; as well as among the various sodalities of the Church, including the Catholic Women Organization, the Catholic Men Organization, the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria.
