LUX TERRA INTENSIFIES EFFORTS TO COMBAT SGBV

The Lux Terra Leadership Foundation has intensified its efforts to combat Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) in Nigeria by training seventy-one more Christian Religious Stakeholders, equipping them with skills and resources to fight the menace in society.

In two separate week-long workshops which held from the 11th to the 30th of November, 2024, the foundation continues to demonstrate its unrelenting commitment to eradicate SGBV in Nigeria. The participants, who occupy strategic positions and exercise strong influence in various communities, circles, and organisations in Nigeria, were drawn from Lagos, Ondo, Enugu, Plateau, Imo, Benue, Akwa-Ibom, Sokoto, Delta, Edo and Nasarawa states and the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.

The participants made commitments to refrain from all forms of violence against the human person and to denounce such acts wherever they find themselves. They were thereafter commissioned as Lux Terra Advocates for the Elimination of Sexual and Gender-based Violence bringing the number of trained advocates to three hundred and eighty-two.

These Nigerians have also begun to address the SGBV crisis in their communities through the execution of action plans that include setting up of help desks for immediate response to SGBV distress calls, advocacy against SGBV using TV, radio, print and social media, preaching of sermons that denounce SGBV, road walks and awareness creation in schools and communities about the hazards of SGBV.
