LUX TERRA HOLDS PARTICIPATORY WORKSHOPS FOR MEMBERS OF CHRISTIAN AND ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES

Lux Terra Leadership Foundation has held participatory workshops for the members of an Islamic Religious Community from Monday 30th January to Wednesday 1st February, 2023 and a Christian Religious Community from Tuesday 7th to Thursday 9th February, 2023. The workshop which was the second in a series for both communities was on Intensifying the Campaign for Greater Integrity in Nigeria. At both workshops, the participants had sessions to review the personal and institutional changes they have witnessed since the first workshop they attended at the Lux Terra Foundation. Many interesting stories were told of how people have begun to live better and more honestly in their day-to-day dealings. A number of the participants attested to having made attitudinal changes as a result of the initial engagements they had with the Foundation. There were also reports of step-down activities done on individual and group levels, passing on the lessons learnt to other people. Ways to sustain the successes recorded were also explored while the challenges faced so far were examined with ways to mitigate them explored. In addition to the rich discussions held, Sheikh Mohammed Nuru Khalid was on hand to facilitate a session on “Religious Leaders, Corruption in Nigeria and the Challenge of Nation Building” with the Muslim group. He challenged them to use their roles as religious and influential people to bring about the desired change in the society. He cited many examples from the Quran and the Hadith to drive home his points. Also, the Christian group had Rev. Fr. Richard Ehusani who facilitated the session on “Religious Leaders, Mathew 5: 13-16 & the Challenge of Corruption in Nigeria.” He also challenged them to use their influential positions as religious people to effect positive change in the society. He underscored the point that a Christian who engages in dishonest practices is a contradiction. At the end of the workshop, participants restated their commitment to be persons of honesty and models of integrity for everyone around them to emulate. They also appreciated the efforts of the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation for the efforts invested in them and the integrity program as a whole. The engagements with the Christian and Islamic Religious Community members is one of the components of Lux Terra’s program on Intensifying the Campaign for Greater Integrity in Nigeria.
