The Psycho-Spiritual Institute of Lux Terra Leadership Foundation (an affiliate of Veritas University, Abuja, Nigeria), has witnessed a major milestone with the graduation of its first cohort of students from its year-long Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Psycho-Spiritual Trauma Healing.
A total of 32 graduates, formed the programme’s pioneer class, and they were awarded their certificates at an impressive ceremony held in Abuja on March 21, 2026. The event marked a significant step in the Institute’s mission to provide holistic trauma care for an ever increasing population of traumatised persons across Africa.
In his welcome address, the Director of the Institute, Rev Dr George Ehusani, explained that the postgraduate programme was designed to equip professionals and volunteers who regularly come in contact with individuals encountering emotional, psychological, and spiritual distress, with the skills required for trauma informed care and trauma counselling.
Delivering the keynote address, the Director of Academic Planning, Rev Dr Richard Ehusani, described the occasion as both historic and deeply significant. He noted that trauma remains a global challenge, often accompanied by a significant gap in adequate response systems. According to him, the Institute is uniquely positioned to bridge this gap through its integrated psychological, spiritual, and cultural approach to healing, particularly for victims of abuse and trauma.
Speaking at the ceremony, some of the graduating students highlighted the transformative impact of the programme, emphasising its relevance not only to their personal growth but also to the work they do in the wider society. They noted that the training has empowered them to function as “healed healers,” capable of supporting others on their journey to recovery. Other speakers at the event commended the Institute for its pioneering and impactful work in advancing psycho-spiritual healing and care in Africa.
The Psycho-Spiritual Institute of Lux Terra Leadership Foundation was established in the year 2013 in response to the urgent need for integrated psychological and spiritual care for individuals facing complex life challenges. It aims to train and graduate experts in psycho-spiritual therapy and counselling across the continent.
Though the Institute has functioned in Nairobi, Kenya, since 2013, its Nigeria campus was formally affiliated with Veritas University, Abuja, and subsequently had its postgraduate programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission, in 2024. On the whole, the Institute has trained participants from 27 African countries, many of whom now serve as psycho-spiritual therapists in rehabilitation centres, hospitals, correctional facilities, and internally displaced persons camps.
The ceremony was witnessed by a former Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission, Dr Chris Maiyaki, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Veritas University, Rev. Prof. Michael Sasa, and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Gabriel Egbe, relations and friends of the graduands, and several dignitaries from far and near.
