COMMUNIQUE AT THE END OF 4TH TOWN HALL MEETING OF THE NETWORK AND ADVOCACY GROUP OF LUX TERRA LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION

COMMUNIQUE AT THE END OF 4TH TOWN HALL MEETING OF THE NETWORK AND ADVOCACY GROUP (NAAG) OF LUX TERRA LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION ON 3RD OF OCTOBER 2022 HELD IN ABUJA 1. That Nigeria is in need of restructuring, beyond superficial changes of political leadership, following the 2023 general elections 2. That constructive citizens engagements with the political class has become imperative ahead of the 2023 general elections as a means extracting firm commitments of improvement in their welfare and security, within the framework of a mutually agreed social contracts 3. That to avert the imminent failure and possible collapse of the Nigerian state, social cohesion and national unity that is premised on equity, fairness, justice and inclusion must be the baseline agenda for the incoming political leadership beyond the 2023 general elections 4. That pursuant to the restructuring of the Nigerian federation and elimination of structural injustices in all forms, previous reports and recommendations on restructuring should be implemented as low hanging fruits beyond 2023 general elections 5. That pursuant to the imperative of social cohesion and national unity as the necessary social conditions for socioeconomic development, the principles of rule of law, equal citizenship and egalitarianism must be activated as part of the direct principles of state policy beyond 2023 general elections 6. That devolution of power should be on the agenda, including the creation of state police to allow for a bottom to the top approach at resuscitating Nigeria’s failing economy and national security architecture beyond 2023 general elections 7. That as part of the citizens engagements with the political class ahead of the 2023 general elections, a people’s charter of demands be made available for adoption as basis for a social contract between the leaders and led and which must be implemented faithfully beyond 2023 general elections 8. That details of how, when and where the Peoples charter of demands will be implemented must be explicit by intending political leaders ahead of the 2023 general elections 9. And that finally, let it be in the enlightened self interest of the privileged to uplift the underprivileged of the society in order to enjoy their privileges in peace and security beyond the 2023 general elections.
